History:

Country/Date of Origin: Poland/1600s

This ancient breed is the Polish variation of the Greyhound. It was used by the Polish nobility to hunt wolf, hare and fox. It came close to extinction during the World Wars but did survive and increased in numbers in the eastern regions of Poland. In the 1980's interest in the breed was revived and it became recognized by the FCI in 1992. The big sighthound is very rarely seen outside of Poland.
