History: Origin:The Cocker Spaniel dates all the way back to the 14th century. The breed originiated in the United Kingdom, and then made its way to Canada and Spain before arriving in the United States in the late 1800s. The American variety took on a look of its own and broke off from the English Cocker Spaniel. The American Cocker Spaniel was recognized by the AKC in 1878. Cockers hold the distinction of being the smallest of both the spaniels and the sporting group. Don't let their size fool you, though. They are great hunting partners, adept at both flushing and collecting targeted game.

Body Type:

  • Small but rugged
  • Possess both speed and endurance
  • Range in weight from 18 to 28 pounds
  • Ideal height is 14 inches for females and 15 inches for males
