Coonhound
Country/Origin:England/11th Century
The six breeds of purebred Coonhounds: Treeing Walkers, Black and Tans, Plotts, English, Bluetick and Redbone a href can compete in events sponsored by the American Kennel Club or the United Kennel Club. Events are Bench Shows, Field Trials and Night Hunts. In Night Hunts, dogs and handlers travel through thickly vegetated areas in pursuit of game. The dogs trail and bay at their prey, which respond by escaping up trees. The dogs "tree" the raccoons (or other animals) and then await their handlers' response. The coonhounds are used for hunting raccoon and other big game such as wild boar, cougar, Mountain lion, bear and any other game that can be treed.
